FAQs

Extra info about our FloodSmart Pillows

Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillows, what are theyand how do they work?

Flood Pillows contain a super absorbent polymer (similar to
what’s inside baby diapers) that react and swell on contact with fresh water.
This is typically 3-5 minutes. The flood pillows can be laid similar to sandbags to divert any water.

Where are Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillows made?

Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillows are proudly Australian made.

How do you activate them? Do I have to add water?

Lay them in position and wait for the rain, spray with a
hose, dunk them in a bucket of water,

lay them in a puddle or place them in a fresh water source
like a stream.

Depending on your situation, you may pre-activate them or
let the weather activate them.

Prior to being activated with water the flood pillows are
very light. It is recommend activating them with water prior to any rush of storm waters. If a retaining wall is desired, pre-soaking & stacking them is recommended.

Do Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillows or anyother water activated sandbags work with saltwater applications?

No, Flood Pillows do not work with salt water, calcium, lime, or chlorine. There is a chemical reaction that causes the absorbed water to be released back out, making them not effective as a barrier & must be thrown away.

How should I position Flood & Enviro Solutions FloodPillows?

Flood Pillows can be laid as a single layer or stacked similar to a brick wall ( staggered) . The higher the flood pillows are laid the wider the base is required. Do not stack one on top of the other. This can cause collapse.

How long do Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillowslast?

Un-activated: If they are stored in a dry environment, they should last 5 years or longer.

Activated: if left in position, they can last for 6-1 months.

What do I do with them when I’m done?

Flood & Enviro Solutions Flood Pillows are
environmentally friendly and can be disposed of in the

trash. It is recommended the bags are left outside to dry
first then placed in the trash. Polymer contents will degrade with UV exposure.
The contents can be very slippery so keep away from paths and driveways to
prevent any slips and falls.

Can FloodSmart Flood Pillows be re-used?

In most cases, yes, they
can be used again. Provided the water the Flood Pillows were used in wasn’t contaminated, reuse is an easy task. Left out in sunny conditions the water
will evaporate from the pillows as they begin to shrink. Depending on local weather this may take approximately 6 - 8 weeks. You will notice the pillow will shrink, flatten and the contents will feel crunchy. At this point, they should be folded and stored in a sealed plastic container. The Flood Pillow will begin
to activate again once in contact with fresh water and moisture. For a household leak, like a drip from the roof or a leaky appliance, re-using is a
great option.

If the Flood Pillows have been in contact with contaminated water such as sewerage, disposing of in general waste will be the best option.

Can the Flood Pillows be left in place and for how long?

In extended rainfall seasons, they may be left in place for 12 – 26 weeks for ongoing protection.
They will remain inflated whilst in contact with fresh water and moisture. They will not quickly deflate. It may stop raining for a few days and reflood and
they will be ready. If they were left indoors say with an internal garage leak, they could easily be left in place for well over 12months. When the leak
occurs, water will absorb into the pillow and inflate, evaporate when it's dry and reactivate when the leak reoccurs. If the Flood Pillow is activating unevenly, manipulate the contents from the outside of the pillow with your
hands to even out.

Can Flood Pillows Float away?

If they are just placed down flat (straight out of the packaging) they could float away if not activated in flowing water. Pre-activating the pillows with hose water, soaking in a freshwater pool (not salt water) or buckets of floodwater is recommended. Stack higher than the water. If stacking over pillows high, widen the base to create a solid foundation to build on in a
brick formation.
